Yozakura Shijuusou

Photobucket
A shaman, a dragon, a vixen spirit, a witch form the team keeping an watchful eye over a town where humans and youkais coexists. Youkais are used to refer to non-human individuals such as ghosts, etc. Not also forgetting the help from a brother and sister devil combo and a “occasionally helpful” zombie. This is the story which Yozakura Shijuusou brings. Together they combat criminals and other characters with ill-intentions towards the city.

Story wise it’s pretty fresh, not your same old spiritual story battle between good and evil or what not. The script includes some slight twist now and then to keep things fresh. But then again, with only 12 episodes, you can’t get any fresher than that. Lol! It does still stay focused on the main villain and moves closer towards the climax pace by pace with each passing episode. Viewers might experience a very “linear” pathway as though you were playing a 2d RPG (Wtf? o_0)

I really enjoyed the animation of this series. Artwork and coloring are neat and tight. A little too bleak at times but other than that, not much to complain about. Architectural art is also pretty good. The buildings and other structures really does give you the feeling of how the town feels like. The vocals and music did well to complement the in-story feeling. A very strong combo indeed.

Character design is strong. Each with their own personality. Not too focused on a single character until overlapping priorities, which is important in a short anime series such as Yozakura Shijuusou. One thing though, characters seems a little tad weak in showing facial expressions.
