Initial D Extra Stage 2

Photobucket
The story continues focusing on the relationship between Iketani, driver of the Nissan S13 from Akina Speed Stars, and Mako, female driver of the blue Sil80.The characters can still relate and a quick recap of the role of each character brings everything back into perspective. However, this means that new viewers who did not follow the original Initial D series would probably feel left out watching this episode.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Somehow this episode still has the racer feel of the original series, even if there wasn’t much of a race. There’s a certain aura around it. :p
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

As usual, the characters are super plain, satisfying the minimum requirement of having 2 eyes, a nose, a mouth and 2 ears. Way way below standards of today’s animes. But if it was ever changed, it wouldn’t feel like an Initial D anime anymore. Lol! One thing though, I feel that the characters voice sound different for this anime.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Cars still look nice as ever, realistic and detailed. Sweet sweet exhaust sounds, coupled with catchy techno tunes. And a good love story behind this episode. Am gonna give it a nice shining 4-stars.

Wangan Midnight

Photobucket
Asakura Akio is a young student and street racer who has a beloved car – a first generation S30 Nissan Fairlady 240 Z. Immediately upon discovering it in a scrap yard he's attracted to it, an attraction that later grows into an obsession. After restoring the car to its former glory, he takes it down a stretch of highway known as Wangan where most street racers challenge one another to be the Wangan Champ. Source: Anime-planet.com

Instead of an anime about cars and it’s technical side. Wangan Midnight actually focuses more on the psychological point of view from the racers and tuners.

Wangan Midnight seemed to have used a double edged strategy. On one side it probably attracted more mature viewers as the content and script does actually feels mature; on another side it probably lost viewers who are into it hoping to feel some excitement.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

The cars are actually well designed. The CG looks good. Not super but there’s no denying that the cars look sweet! (I do have a passion for cars in case you were wondering, and no, my rating is not biased by it) Unfortunately, the races are actually rather dull, even with all the nice looking cars.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Initially, I could only bring myself to give Wangan Midnight a doubted 3-Star. Being an anime of a specific genre, it already limits its fans. And not having much exciting scenes will limit its fans even more. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a good watch.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

However, as it nears the end of the series, things really pick up and you realize that Wangan Midnight really does have something to show for after all. Especially from episode 21 onwards. Successful in bringing depth to certain characters and introducing more than just cars. This title makes a comeback to a 4-Stars title.

If it fails to inspire you viewers, might I try to suggest saving several episodes to watch in one go. Rather than watching one episode and having to wait a week or two for another, which to me kills the suspense dreadfully. This advise actually applies to all animes. :p

Toaru Majutsu No Index

Photobucket
Toma Kamijo's right hand has the ability to nullify any form of supernatural power, whether it be magical, psychic, or divine; he lives in a city populated by students with these powers. Yet unfortunately for Toma, his arm also seems to nullify good luck. Despite his bad luck, Toma tries to stay out of trouble and just live out his life, trying to be the "good guy" whenever he can; but trouble enters his life one day when he finds a young girl hanging on his balcony. She turns out to be a nun of the Church of England, bearing the Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum - a collection of 103,000 forbidden texts, and as a result has a number of people after her. How far will Toma go to protect his new companion from her pursuers? Source: Anime-planet.com

And now for the review.
As technical as it may seem, if viewers manage to grasp what the script is trying to say and the story it’s trying to layout, it gets very very interesting. At least it feels refreshing considering that the story is somewhat different from the usual anime.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

The battle scenes are enjoyable too! With magicians and E.S.P.ers having different elements and powers of their own. Having slight logic and tactics during battle adds even more excitement to the anime. Not forgetting the captivating ups and downs (and in-betweens) of the relationship developed between each character as the story progresses.

Drawing, sound and coloring wise are all satisfactory. Probably slightly above average for most viewers.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Toaru Majutsu No Index would have been off well without the occasional ecchi. I don’t see the point of putting ecchi in there anyway. As long as viewers can get past the first 5 episodes, the anime will be fine as it gets more and more addicting. Don’t be scared off by the huge amount of technical terms used in the anime.

If I could change the anime, I’d make it so that Touma Kamijo’s teacher (sensei) actually looked her age, instead of looking like some loli gone wrong.-_-‘ The more important change would be that there are TOO MUCH CICADAS. It gets a little irritating after a while.

Overall, Toaru Majutsu No Index gets a solid 5-star. Enticing viewers with an interesting story, solid character casts, exciting battle scenes and a pinch of romance.

Soul Eater

Photobucket
Soul Eater takes place in a world where peace and order are kept by people called Soul Technicians. Technicians are teamed with people called Weapons, which as the name implies can transform to weapons. Technicians wield these weapons to help them in combat. These technicians and Weapons are led by the Shinigami (Grim Reaper) who runs Shibusen, a school for training new technicians and Weapons. The focus of the anime is on 3 main teams of Technicians and Weapons. There is Maya and Soul, a girl and a scythe. Next is Black Star and Tsubaki, a multiweapon (blade, shuriken, smoke bomb :p). Last is Death the Kid who wields 2 guns, Liz and Patty.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Soul Eater oozes pure energy. Since the first episode, the anime has managed to keep its flair pumping up till now. Stories are direct, no fuss making a big circle to solve the same mystery. Viewers are kept on the edge of their seat, with the constant action each chapter brings. Allowing minimal rest in-between combats, probably giving viewers a moment to take a short breather, before plunging into the next action sequence. The introduction of a character by the name of Chrona might slow down the pace a little, but we’ll see how it goes. Hope it doesn’t spoil the tempo. :p
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

The character designs are superb. No wait, they are perfect! Perfect in a way that if any character was to be altered, the feeling of the anime would have changed. Every character has their individually appealing attributes. Making every character unique and possibly getting a fanbase of their own.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

No complaint regarding the sound department too. Vocals and sound effects are well complimented. Due to the abundance of fight scenes and varying environments, a well played choice of sound effects greatly enhance the feel of the anime. Every punch, every shot, every slash, every speech, so terribly sweet!

This is one anime which I have absolutely no idea how they can improve on. In simple words, there is currently no other cooler animes out there compared to Soul Eater. A definite rating of 5-arse-kicking-Stars!

A little off the review, but let me tell you a “bedtime” story.
After work, you come back. You take a bath, grab your dinner, then take a rest. You then turn on your pc, get some snacks and drinks. And get comfortable in front of your monitor. Next, you crank up the volume a little, and it’s time to watch the Soul Eater episodes you’ve been saving up. You finish one episode, 9pm. You finish the next, 9.30pm. You continue on, 10pm. Next thing you know, it’s 12am. You know you’re screwed as you’re working tomorrow and you aren’t in bed yet.

You finally get to bed after watching another 2 episodes. You fall asleep. Next morning you wake up, probably with an aching body and feeling bummed. But it all doesn’t matter, all that you are thinking of is the next episode of Soul Eater. And work will probably sark for the rest of the day.

And THAT is why viewers should only watch Soul Eater on the weekends. Lol! Cause it is more addictive than Oreos itself! (As in the cookie -_-‘)
