Rating System

How I rate animes:
I start an anime series with an assigned 3-Stars. Then as the series goes, depending on how the anime fair overall, the rating will rise or drop.
Just a rough example, a series with a good start may rise up to a 4-Star then having a bad mid point of the series would probably drop a star, back to 3. Then Having a sucky ending would drop it another star to 2-Stars rating.

I do let anime community hype influence my initial ratings. Melancholy of Haruhi and K-On! (Yes you haters! I'm putting K-On on my About page) was super hyped and talked about before I even started watching the series, so I started watching them with a 4-Stars rating. Same goes for underhyped animes (Viper's Creed for example), will be assigned with a 2-Stars rating when I start out.

And just so you know, I always watch series only after I have gotten hold of the last episode. Which means I always get to read about the anime beforehand through other anime bloggers and Anime3r will always be late on reviews. -.-"
What can I say? I enjoy anime marathons.

Star ratings and what they signify:

1-Stars are basically a waste of time. Nuff' Said! I would only give 1-star ratings to the worst animes. As an effortless attempt at motivation.

2-Stars can only satisfy a handful. Maybe fans of the specific genre. But mostly not appealing.

3-Stars are worth checking out. Go ahead! Try a few episodes to make sure that you don't miss what might be potentially a good anime to your taste.

4-Stars will top most people's list. Almost a must watch, but not really there yet. Possibly lacking minor improvements. Able to give a sense of satisfaction when/after watching it.

5-Stars are a must watch! Even if you do not like this genre of anime. Cause this anime might be the very one to change your taste towards this genre! Even if it's far from perfect, as long as it has good content or really entertained me, it will go here.

Current anime review guidelines for now would be:
1) Used to do a review after watching 6 episodes, but I noticed that it wasn't really sufficient especially in animes which takes more episodes than that to build up the main plot. So will try to finish a whole series before I write a review from now on. Will bend this in accordance to capacity of hard disk drive. Lol!
2) The content or story of the anime will carry more points as to affect the rating. As how it should be! I prioritize content story wise over graphics. So don't be surprised if an anime with poor graphics get's good ratings. It's probably due to a good solid storyline.
3) To be as unbiased as possible towards the anime, regardless of title, studio, company or cast.

However, the guidelines will be amended should there be any need to. I'm new to this after all :p Just a little warning beforehand! I am pretty generous with my Stars.

Another note to readers is that I will mostly take synopsis from other sources like AnimeNewsNetwork.com, Anime-source.com or Anime-Planet.com. I will author the reviews only.

Time for a shake-down

Hey everyone! Just to update anyone who follows Anime3r news. I am going to fool around with the blogs layout. Expect major changes in the coming weeks. I could lie and say that it's to improve and help the blog gain more readers. But I won't, the truth is that I'm just bored and needed something to fiddle around with. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Viper's Creed

Photobucket
Following a global war and climate change, 35% of Earth's land mass has sunk into the ocean. In this difficult time, countries rely not on armies but on private military corporations to provide security against constant terrorist attacks. One such company is Arqon Global Security, whose staff of mercenaries is tasked with protecting Daiva City on a pay-per-mission basis. Armed with motorcycles that transforms into weapon-wielding mecha, these "blademen" are none too popular with the people they protect - but they always get the job done! Source: Anime-planet.com

Wow! Been quite some time since I watched any interesting mecha animes. Glad I chose Viper’s Creed to review. Really dig both the opening and ending themes. Music just goes with the flow effortlessly. Animation is also very crisp. Among the intense action as mercenaries, they manage to layout some softer stories as well, which does wonders balancing out the script.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

The hard lines with clear solid colors really sweeten the animation, keeping it neat and easy on the eyes. Character designs are pretty standard but are well crafted to their roles. You have the mysterious, slightly dark but secretly heroic Saiki as the main character, with the naïve and innocent Kariya as his ‘operator’, alongside other rather stereotype characters. I am not complaining about that though. As I said the characters were well suited to their roles. Viewers get to understand the few supporting casts as well. As the spotlight is cast on how they ended up as ‘blademen’. This well proportioned anime keeps things enjoyable for viewers. Following a short and simple script with good battle scenes keeps it from getting dull. All the while building up the main plot at the right pace and finally revealing the plot and twist and also everything else at the right time. Definitely a worthy 4-Stars.

Hajime No Ippo: New Challenger

Photobucket
After a long and hard struggle, Makunochi Ippo has finally won the Japan Featherweight Champion title. And now he must prepare himself as challengers aiming to take his belt away from him appears one by one. From terrifying opponents to close friends appearing as challengers, Ippo has to defend his title against them and aim higher at the same time. Will everything go his way? Or will he succumb to the constant pressure.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Oh no! Another addicting sports themed kick ass anime. Hajime No Ippo will deliver swift and hard punches to viewers of this New Challenger series. Viewers won’t get a chance to feel bored as boxing matches are evenly spaced out between every 4 to 5 episodes. The opening theme also gets you in the mood as you prepare for the match-up. Go grab some popcorn too! Lol!
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Characters are pretty old school. With face portraits from the 90’s and blocky muscles, especially obvious during boxing matches, which is only natural. Animation is accompanied by solid and clear colors. I did not get the chance to watch the original Hajime No Ippo series but I doubt the animation has changed much. It’s nice that there isn’t too much exaggeration during the boxing matches. None of your flashy 360 degrees fire-breathing sky-reaching punch. The sound effects also nicely compliment the action. Keeping things exciting without viewers even knowing it.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

I understand that there is a little bit of romance going on in the anime, between Makunochi Ippo and a girl by the name of Kumi-san. I wish they would show just a tad bit more of this. Only briefly mentioning about this romance in the first episode has left me curious. It’s good that even though I missed the original Hajime No Ippo series, I don’t feel left out as everything is pretty straight forward and relationships are relapsed whenever a related character is involved. At the end of the match, Hajime No Ippo definitely deserves a hefty 5-Star punch.

White Album

Photobucket
Touya Fujii is a young university student who juggles two part-time jobs with his studies so that he can afford to live. The most important thing in his life is his girlfriend Yuki, but since she is an up and coming idol they barely get a chance to talk, let alone see each other. With her managers keeping a close watch on her and attempting to prevent their relationship, it seems that Touya and Yuki will simply have to make the most of their fleeting moments together. However, they do have one person fighting in their corner: Yuki’s friend - the famous idol Rina Ogata - hires Touya in order to create opportunities for the pair to be together. Unfortunately he is promptly fired when the production company discover her plan. When she pledges to make it up to him, Touya begins to wonder if Rina is all that she seems, and why is she going to so much trouble for him and Yuki? Source: Anime-planet.com

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

I know pure romance fans won’t exactly call this a romance anime. It was more like Fujii, being the main character, having a field trip deciding between the girls he likes. I wouldn’t say that the anime has a solid story but it was very addicting. More addicting than any soap opera I’ve watched. Yes, that’s it, White Album felt like an anime version of a soap opera title.
There are times while watching the anime I really felt sad for Yuki and Fujii. As their relationship gets manipulated around by the people they trust. Especially Yuki, being the sweet and weak girl that she is. There are also times when you will get so pissed off at Fujii for being so weak; not being able to confirm his love for Yuki and not straightening things out. Wanted to slap him so bad at times. Animation wise is rather average, nothing special on that. However, there are times when White Album really brings out the mood as animations get blurred out and pastel colors are used. This is something which makes it stand out moderately among other similar animes.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

For an anime circling around singers, there really aren’t many songs to listen to. There are probably 2 to 3 short verses played throughout the series. But the opening and ending suited the theme nicely. Didn’t listed to both themes too much though, was trying to avoid feeling too moody and losing sleep (which later I found out was too late as I rolled around the bed for the rest of the night as scenes from the animes kept playing in my head and making me feel sad) And to me, any anime which can affect you wholeheartedly is a good anime. And White album is something even better. Oh man! This anime better end with a happy ending or I’m probably going to lose more sleep. 5-Sobby-Stars for White Album!

This anime is pretty much your regular anime. From watching the anime I would derived that there wasn’t much effort put into production. Well, probably just a little on the visual effects or animation anyway. Maybe because 3 episodes, 20 plus minutes each, are too short for anyone to get attached to as an anime, I didn’t feel anything from watching this. Story wise, it felt like a potentially good anime should there had been more episodes.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

It would have helped if characters had a bit more casting ‘stance’ instead of repeating the same move over and over again. Strait Jacket doesn’t have many strong points, but it isn’t particularly weak either. It’s just too ‘plain’, with no aspect standing out of other animes among the crowd. A 2-Star then for what felt like could have been a popular anime.

Ah! My Goddess: Tatakau Tsubasa

Photobucket

Belldandy and the other goddesses are finally taking some time to relax and enjoy each other’s company – that is, until Lind, a Valkyrie goddess from Heaven, comes to visit them with bad news: an angel eater has been stolen and the thief is most likely heading for Earth. Fearing for the safety of Belldandy and the other goddesses, Lind decides to stay on Earth and protect them. Now, Lind must keep the goddesses and their angels safe while struggling with her own conflicting emotions concerning her powers. Source: Anime-planet

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

This is a rather nice addition to the Ah! My Goddess series. Unfortunately, if you were never a fan of the original series, you’d probably want to give this a miss. There isn’t anything new or different in this 2 episode series compared to the original. Animation, music and story wise are pretty much the same standard you would find from the original Ah! My Goddess series. However, there is a new character introduced and I think she is rather cool. 2 episodes doesn’t really get viewers to feel attached to the anime, but there is some rather important plot to this series. Like Skuld finally getting her angel.
